Brief

Design the visual identity for a new sourdough bakery and bookstore called Cultured. Choose a historic design style and base your concept on it.

Design concept

“Cultured Bakery + Bookstore” branding and visual identity concept is influenced by Arts and Crafts movement — a celebration of all things handmade. The Arts and Crafts movement designs were inspired by nature, with the most prominent artist of the time being William Morris who is famous for his floral patterns.
Branding elements are designed using nature inspired motifs and patterns but in a more contemporary style and using Australian native plants to appeal to the local market.
The colour palette is derived from a popular William Morris’ pattern — warm, muted tones and mustard yellow and dark chocolate brown for contrast. These colours are friendly and inviting, yet unique and sophisticated. I also art directed a photoshoot in a studio to showcase the branding, products and packaging.

During this project I also art directed a photoshoot in a studio to showcase the branding, products and packaging.

Part of the brief was to create a double page spread for the Gourmet Traveller Magazine to advertise the new bakery.
